Family Of Cyclist Who Died From a Pulmonary Embolism At Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla NY Awarded $23.3 Million By Jury In Wrongful Death Medical Malpractice Lawsuit.
A jury in Westchester County New York has reportedly awarded the family of 48-year-old man who resided in Ossining, New York $23.3 million in damages in a wrongful death medical malpractice lawsuit involving Westchester Medical Center doctors and nurses who allegedly failed to monitor him for blood clots after he was admitted to the hospital in October 2018 after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a cycling accident.
According to reports, before the decedent (Jesus Eduardo Espitia) was about to be discharged from the hospital, he suffered a blood clot in one of his legs that turned into a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lung). He thereafter went into cardiac arrest and passed away.
The plaintiff in the medical malpractice lawsuit reportedly asserted that the hospital doctors and nurses were negligent in failing to diagnose or treat deep vein thrombosis.
