Family Of Woman Who Suffered From Cardiorespiratory Collapse After Receiving Anesthesia For an Outpatient Procedure Awarded $15.4 Million By Jury In Wrongful Death Medical Malpractice Lawsuit.
A jury in New Haven Connecticut has reportedly awarded the family of Maria Ocasio, a 57-year-old woman from Connecticut who died from catastrophic brain damage, $15.4 million in damages in a wrongful death medical malpractice lawsuit against Meriden Wallingford Anesthesia Group.
According to reports, Ms. Ocasio had visited Midstate Medical Center in Meriden Connecticut for an outpatient procedure that required anesthesia and had suffered from a cardiorespiratory collapse (sudden cessation of both heart and lung functions) after the procedure that led to catastrophic brain damage. She was reportedly in the ICU for 30 days thereafter before passing away.
The plaintiff in the medical malpractice wrongful death lawsuit reportedly asserted that the anesthesiology team was negligent in failing to recognize and treat the cardiorespiratory collapse, and allegedly failed to resuscitate her, give her chest compressions or call a code.
