Ohio Zantac Pancreatic Cancer Lawsuit Complaint Filed In Ohio Federal Court

Cuyahoga County Ohio Resident Filed Zantac Pancreatic Cancer Lawsuit Case Against Defendants Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi US Services, Chattem, Pfizer, and GlaxoSmithKline.

On January 29, 2020 a Cuyahoga County Ohio man reportedly filed a lawsuit against various manufacturers and/or distributors of Zantac and ranitidine in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, styled Randy J. Wright v. Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Sanofi US Services Inc., Chattem, Inc., Pfizer, Inc., and GlaxoSmithKline, LLC, Case No. 1:20-cv-00189 alleging, among other things, that he suffered from pancreatic cancer in 2019 after using the OTC heartburn medication Zantac almost nearly every day since 1996.

According to the personal injury lawsuit complaint, at the time that ranitidine was developed, there was scientific literature suggesting that drugs like ranitidine, which contain a dimethylamine (“DMA”) group within the molecule, are likely to form NDMA (a semi-volatile organic chemical that forms in both industrial and natural processes and a member of N-nitrosamines, a family of carcinogens), when combined with other substances, such as nitrite, already found in the body.  According to the complaint, certain rat and hamster studies that examined the carcinogenicity of NDMA observed cancers in the pancreas.

The Zantac pancreatic cancer lawsuit reportedly asserts the following causes of action: negligence, strict liability for an alleged failure to warn, strict liability for an alleged design defect, breach of express warranties and breach of implied warranties.

The Zantac pancreatic lawsuit complaint reportedly seeks actual or compensatory damages, exemplary and punitive damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, and costs including reasonable attorneys’ fees, court costs, and other litigation expenses.

If you took Zantac and suffered from pancreatic cancer, you may be able to seek compensation from a Zantac pancreatic cancer lawsuit.
