Newberry County, South Carolina Resident Files Elmiron Lawsuit Over Alleged Eye Injury Resulting In Vision Loss
On May 4, 2020 a woman residing in Newberry County, South Carolina, reportedly filed an Elmiron injury lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Johnson & Johnson in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania styled Barbara English v. Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Johnson & Johnson, Case 2:20-cv-02150 alleging, among other things, that the prescription drug, Elmiron (pentosyn polysulfate sodium) was prescribed to her for the treatment of painful bladder and/or interstitial cystitis and that in or about 2017, she began to experience visual symptoms, and on April 11, 2019, was diagnosed with permanent retinal injury and vision loss.
According to the lawsuit, studies have linked the long term use of Elmiron to the development of atypical maculopathy and vision loss.
The Pennsylvania Elmiron eye injury lawsuit reportedly brings claims for strict liability and negligence and reportedly seeks, among other things, compensatory damages for physical pain, mental suffering, inconvenience, and loss of the enjoyment of life, damages for costs of medical and rehabilitative treatment and care and wage loss and loss of earning capacity.
