Michigan Mom and Her Son Who Suffers From Cerebral Palsy Awarded $120 Million By Jury In Birth Injury Lawsuit Against Henry Ford Health System Over Alleged Failure to Timely Perform a C-Section.
A jury in Wayne County Michigan has reportedly awarded a 13-year-old boy and his mother $120 million in a birth injury medical malpractice lawsuit that was filed against Henry Ford Health System.
According to reports, the birth injury lawsuit asserted that the attending obstetrician and several nurses failed to timely perform a C-section on Kirsten Drake, the mother, despite fetal monitor indications of “non-reassuring heart tones” and that her child, K’Jon suffered from severe and permanent brain damage (including cerebral palsy and severe developmental delay) due to lack of oxygen (asphyxiation) as a result of the alleged negligent failure to provide proper obstetrical care.
It was reported that K’Jon would need medical and home care for the rest of his life. The trial, which began on March 4, lasted almost three weeks, reaching a verdict on March 28.
