According to the Suboxone lawsuit, plaintiff was prescribed Suboxone by a physician to treat opioid use disorder and that allegedly as a result of his ingestion of Suboxone, he suffers from permanent tooth damage and/or had substantial dental work performed to repair damage.

The Suboxone lawsuit complaint alleges that “Defendants knew or should have known that Suboxone, when used as prescribed and intended, causes harmful damage to the teeth due to the acidity of buprenorphine.” Suboxone is a combination drug that contains buprenorphine and naloxone that is designed to be ingested through oral absorption either as a tablet or film that is placed sublingually or buccally.

The Suboxone complaint further alleges that in early 2022, the FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication “warning that dental problems have been reported with medicines containing buprenorphine that are dissolved in the mouth. The dental problems, including tooth decay, cavities, oral infections, and loss of teeth, can be serious and have been reported even in patients with no history of dental issues.”
