In July 2023 a judge in West Palm Beach Florida reportedly awarded $11 million dollars to the family of a 39 year old woman residing in Boynton Beach Florida who died from “acute mitragynine intoxication.” Mitragynine is a psychoactive compound or alkaloid found in Kratom, an herbal extract derived from the leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia.

Grow LLC d/b/a KD Incorporated and the Kratom Distro et al, Case No. 9:22-cv-81731-DMM, reportedly alleged, among other things, that the decedant, under the belief that Kratom was a safe dietary supplement with several health benefits, regularly purchased Kratom online from Defendants who marketed and sold various name brands of Kratom which included “Space Dust,” “Green Maeng Da” (a/k/a “G2”), “Green Horned Maeng Da” (a/k/a “G4”), and “Green Riau” (a/k/a “G5″).
