A Louisiana Woman Files Personal Injury Lawsuit Complaint In Louisana Federal Court Against Walmart and Midea America After Suffering Injuries From a Pressure Cooker That Allegedly Exploded.

On September 29, 2023 a woman residing in Iberia Parish, Louisiana filed a personal injury lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, styled Bobbie Sullivan v. Walmart, Inc., et. al., Case No. 6:23-cv-01370, alleging, among other things, that on October 7, 2022, she was using a Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker Model WM-CS6004W that is sold at Walmart to prepare shrimp, that after the cooking cycle she released the pressure release valve and when she went to remove the lid, the pressure cooker exploded and sprayed super-heated liquid and steam across her body.

Defendants in the Walmart Pressure Cooker lawsuit complaint include Walmart Inc. f/k/a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Midea America Corp.

Walmart Farberware Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

According to the Walmart Pressure Cooker lawsuit complaint, the pressure cooker allegedly possessed defects that made it unreasonably dangerous for its intended use by consumers because the lid can be rotated and opened while the unit remains pressurized. Specifically, plaintiff alleges, among other things, that (a) the pressure cooker’s safety features deviated from specifications or performance standards, including the certification under applicable safety standards such as “UL 136,” (b) the pressure cooker was allowed to heat and pressurize without its lid being sufficiently locked and secured, and that it was able to open under significant pressure; and (c) the Defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings of these dangers.
