The Widow of a Military Veteran, Pilot and Homebuilder Who Died From an Untreated Heart Attack Awarded $15 Million By Jury In Alabama Wrongful Death Lawsuit.
A jury in Limestone County Alabama has reportedly awarded $15 million to the widow of an 81-year-old who had been a pilot, military veteran and homebuilder and who died from an untreated heart attack. The Alabama wrongful death lawsuit reportedly asserted that in April 2019 the decedent, Robert Owen, who was a high-risk cardiac patient requiring ALS/cardiac transport and continuous cardiac monitoring, needed a medical transport from Huntsville Hospital to UAB hospital.
According to reports, the paramedic and ambulance operator failed to provide necessary paramedic care and failed treat the patient who was experiencing a heart attack during the transport. Apparently, the ambulance driver had a history of substance use and was under the influence of drugs during the transport.
The patient later died at UAB hospital. The jury found that HEMSI and its ambulance operators were negligent. The trial took ten days.
