Elmiron Lawsuit Filed By Kansas Plaintiff Who Suffered from Alleged Retinal Injury and Vision Loss

Ottawa County Kansas Citizen and Resident Files Elmiron Lawsuit Over Alleged Retinal Injury and Loss of Vision

On May 11, 2020 a citizen and resident of Ottawa County, Kansas reportedly filed an Elmiron lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Johnson & Johnson in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania styled Rebecca Gassman v. Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Johnson & Johnson, Case 2:20-cv-02234 alleging, among other things, that she consumed and regularly used Defendants’ Elmiron (pentosyn polysulfate sodium) product and suffered physical and emotional injuries, including but not limited to loss of vision, including a diagnosis of macular degeneration.  The Plaintiff alleges that in or about 2010, her treating medical physician prescribed Elmiron to her due to her medically diagnosed painful bladder and/or interstitial cystitis. She further alleges that in or about 2019, she began to experience visual symptoms, and was subsequently diagnosed with permanent retinal injury and vision loss in March of 2020.

According to the Elmiron lawsuit, Elmiron was approved in 1996 to be used as a treatment for painful bladder symptoms and interstitial cystitis (a medical condition in the bladder that causes bladder pressure, bladder pain, and sometimes pelvic pain).  The lawsuit claims that several  papers have been published in the medical literature regarding atypical maculopathy associated with Elmiron use.

The Elmiron lawsuit reportedly brings legal claims for strict liability and negligence and reportedly seeks, among other things, a monetary award, sufficient to compensate her for physical pain, mental suffering, inconvenience, and loss of the enjoyment of life, for costs of medical and rehabilitative treatment and care, for wage loss and loss of earning capacity, for costs of suit and interest.

If you used Elmiron and suffered from retinal injury, vision loss or damage to your eyes, you may be able to seek compensation from an Elmiron eye injury lawsuit.
