A Tinley Park Illinois Resident Files Zantac Stomach Cancer Lawsuit Case Against Defendants Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi US Services, Chattem, Pfizer, and GlaxoSmithKline.

On February 14, 2020 a Tinley Park Illinois woman reportedly filed a personal injury lawsuit against various manufacturers and/or distributors of Zantac (ranitidine) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, styled Christine Erfft v. Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Sanofi US Services Inc., Chattem, Inc., Pfizer, Inc., and GlaxoSmithKline, LLC, Case No. 3:20-cv-0164 alleging, among other things, that she took Zantac over the counter for approximately 18 years and subsequently developed stomach cancer in June 2019.

According to the personal injury lawsuit complaint Zantac was developed and approved for prescription use by the FDA in 1983 and later became available without a prescription in 1996 and about a year later became available in generic form known as ranitidine. Zantac and ranitidine belong to a class of medications called histamine H2-receptor antagonists (or H2 blockers), which decrease the amount of acid produced by the stomach and are used to treat gastric ulcers, heartburn, acid  indigestion, sour stomach, and other gastrointestinal conditions.

According to the complaint, in certain long-term animal studies in mice and rats utilizing different routes of exposures (inhalation, subcutaneous injection, and intraperitoneal abdomen injection) cancer was observed in the lung, liver, kidney, nasal cavity, and stomach. In addition, according to the suit, in certain hamster studies, cancers were observed in the liver, pancreas, and stomach.

The Zantac stomach cancer lawsuit reportedly asserts the following causes of action: strict liability (design defect), strict liability (failure to warn), negligence, breach of express warranties and breach of implied warranties.

The Zantac gastric cancer lawsuit complaint reportedly seeks actual damages, exemplary damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, and costs including reasonable attorneys’ fees, court costs, and litigation expenses.

If you took Zantac and suffered from stomach cancer, you may be able to seek compensation from a Zantac stomach cancer lawsuit.
