Hartford County Connecticut Resident Files Elmiron Lawsuit Over Alleged Loss of Vision and Retinal Macula Dystrophy Diagnosis
On March 16, 2020 a woman residing in Hartford County Connecticut reportedly filed a personal injury lawsuit against the designers, marketers and distributors of the interstitial cystitis and bladder pain drug Elmiron in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, styled Kimberly Pelczar v. Teva Branded Pharmaceutical Products R&D, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc., Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, and Johnson & Johnson, Inc., Case 3:20-cv-00406 alleging, among other things, that she took Elmiron for the treatment of interstitial cystitis and bladder pain and developed physical and emotional injuries, including loss of vision and a diagnosis of retinal macula dystrophy.
According to the suit, there have been various papers published in the
medical literature regarding the atypical maculopathy associated with Elmiron use that may lead to vision loss.
The Elmiron lawsuit reportedly brings claims for strict liability, design defect and negligence under the Connecticut Products Liability Act. The Elmiron lawsuit complaint reportedly seeks, among other things, a monetary award to compensate the plaintiff for general damages for physical pain, mental suffering, inconvenience, and loss of the enjoyment of life, past, present, and future damages for costs of medical and rehabilitative treatment and care for Plaintiff and past wage loss and future loss of earning capacity.
